Ok, for the purest in me, I have bastardised my canoe by replacing side planks with pine instead of cedar planks. Yet, I have another school of thought here. 1. it was cheaper for me to replace with pine because I found the wood free at the side of the road, 2. it is structural and will be covered. and 3. in the spirit of conservation, I am using the material available to me. I reckon less then 10% of the canoe will have new pieces added to it. Saying that, pine does not bend as nicely as cedar so I will keep the pieces short and straight.
